Team Camagüey Presents New Roster for 49th Cuba’s Baseball National Series

Candido Gonzalez Stadium, in Camagüey. Camagüey, Cuba, Oct 7.-  Team Camagüey will be present at the next National Series of Baseball with more than 50 per cent of its roster renewed in comparison with the one presented during 2008-2009 season, in which the locals finished in the tenth position.

Lednier Ricardo, Elier Noa, Pedro Smith and Carlos Laforcade are the catchers of the team that, according to predictions, should not advance to postseason competitions.

Marino Luis, Alexander Ayala, Dary Bartolomé, Rafael Lastre, Yosvany García, Joel Ávalos and Dager García are the infield players, whereas William Luis, Dairon Varona, Alexei Palmero, Dariel Álvarez, Osmel Águila, Asniel Hernández and Daniel Carbonell will play in the outfields.

The pitching roster is comprised of Vicyoandri Odelín, Elier Sánchez (lefthander), Vladimir Pérez, Yurmany Socarrás, Fidel Romero, Yurniel Germán, Jaime Vidal (lefthander), Yankiel Flores, Lázaro Pausa, Yoan Fabré, Ramón Robles, Jorge Luis Parga, Yuniseski Álvarez and Yusnei Saborit.

Sánchez continues with problems in his pitching arm and hand, for which his permanence in the event could be at risk, Reynerio Oramas, member of the Provincial Commission of Baseball, told this reporter.

The team’s strength lies on its defence, an area in which the locals occupied one of the most outstanding positions last season. On the other hand, its offensive performance was Team Camagüey’s weakest part.

According to schedule, Camagüey will be visiting team facing Santiago de Cuba in that eastern city, in the initial subseries between these two teams. (Adolfo Silva Silva/AIN)
