Pope Benedict XVI Met with Fidel Castro in Havana
Havana, Cuba, Mar 28.- Shortly after saying Mass on Wednesday morning at the Revolution Square in Havana with the presence of more than 300,000 people, Pope Benedict XVI received the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at the Nunciature of the Cuban capital.
During the meeting, Fidel Castro told the pontiff that he had closely followed all the details of his visit to the Caribbean nation and asked him about liturgical changes, a pope’s responsibilities in a changing world, and the challenges facing humanity today.
For his part, Benedict XVI thanked the Cuban leader for the expressions of love that he had received in Cuba and explained the purpose of his journeys around the world to confirm the Christians’ faith and the Church’s service to the peoples.
According to Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi, the half-hour meeting was serene, intense, animated and cordial. (ACN).
