Pope's Visit to Cuba Makes Headlines in Peru
Lima, Mar 29.- The meeting between Pope Benedict XVI and the historic leader of Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, as well as His Holiness´ criticism of the U.S. blockade on Cuba made headlines in Peru on Thursday.
Newspapers highlighted, most of them on their front pages, those events that took place before the Pope left Cuba. Radio and television news programs also covered the news.
"Historic meeting in Havana", reads the front page of the conservative newspaper El Comercio, regarding the meeting between Fidel Castro and Supreme Pontiff, and the article also includes the topics discussed, which were revealed by the visiting delegation.
It also coincides with other newspapers when referring to the Pope´s statement regarding the blockade on Cuba, which La Primera center-leftist newspaper highlighted on its front page with the headline "Pope Criticizes Blockade against Cuba".
When referring to that policy implemented by Washington for over 50 years, Benedict XVI condemned the "restrictive economic measures imposed on Cuba from abroad" that "affect the people". (Prensa Latina).
