Message in Favor of Cuban 5 from Panamanian Volcano
Havana, Apr 6.- A message in favor of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters arrested over 13 years ago in the United States will depart from the Baru volcano as an initiative by young people who will climb Panama''s highest mountain.
We expect at least a dozen of participants tomorrow, Johnathan Gonzalez, a political leader of the Movement of the People's Revolutionary Youths in Chiriqui, Panama, told Prensa Latina over the telephone.
Regarding the initiative, which has been carried out since 2010 and which included Baru (3,475 meters above sea level) for the first time last year, Gonzalez said that they will shoot a video containing a declaration in favor of the Cuban Five, and will send it to the media.
We will depart on Saturday from the city of Boquete, said Gonzalez, adding that climbing to the summit will take them seven hours and there, they will make a bonfire of solidarity with The Five, as they are known internationally,
With a guitar and songs by Silvio Rodriguez, founder of the New Song Movement in Cuba and an icon for many revolutionary movements in the continent, the group will review the legal process against the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters.
The goal, he said, is that the comrades learn about the case to spread the message of justice for Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and René Gonzalez. The latter is under a three-year supervised release in the United States. He added that this group includes three comrades who climbed the Baru volcano in February 2011, coinciding with Argentinean youths who climbed the Aconcagua (the highest mountain in the hemisphere) to demand the release of the Cuban Five.
They plan to return on Sunday, when they will make statements to local radio, as they did in the Panamanian provinces of Herrera and Veraguas. (Prensa Latina)
