Eusebio Leal, Honorary Member of Scotland’s RIAS
Havana, Cuba, Jun 14.- Havana’s Historian Eusebio Leal Spengler was distinguished as Honorary Fellow of The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) for his outstanding restoration and conservation work in the Old Section of the Cuban capital.
In granting the title to Leal, the RIAS stressed that Leal’s work has not only been limited to opening cultural, health institutions or lodging facilities, but also to preserve and promote the humane performance of his city, according to Granma daily newspaper. At the initiative of the Scottish entity, the Cuba Conservation Trust was set with the aim of contributing resources to the conservation of the heritage treasured by Havana city, and particularly to boost the restoration program led by Leal the Old Section of Havana, declared Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
The RIAS was founded in 1916 as the professional body for all chartered architects in Scotland and is the foremost architectural professional institute in the country dealing with architecture and the built environment. (ACN).
