In the Footsteps of Che Guevara Chess Tournament Ends in Camagüey
Camagüey, June 16 - With two final rounds slated for today, the fourth edition of the “In the Footsteps of Che Guevara” chess tournament comes to a close on Saturday at Camagüey’s provincial chess academy.
A total of 26 teams made up by three players each follows the Swiss game system.
Shop, retail and bank workers, employees of the National Institute of Sport, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) and students of the Cerro Pelado School for Sports Initiation compete in the tournament, says chess methodological consultant Iroel Lugo Canales.
Besides, chess players from Minas, Nuevitas, Jimaguayú, Vertientes, and Esmeralda municipalities are taking part in the competition.
The tournament is held each year to pay homage to iconic Latin American revolutionary Che Guevara, one of the main promoters of this analytical sport in Cuba. (Amaury M. Valdivia Fernández/Photo: Orlando Durán Hernández/Taken from Adelante website).
