Raul Castro Welcomes Team Cuba
Havana, Mar 20.- Cuban President Raul Castro welcomed home early Friday the national baseball team that played in the II World Baseball Classic, Granma newspaper reported.
Addressing the athletes, Cuban Communist Party Political Bureau member Esteban Lazo said "we receive you with the pride and emotion of a father, a brother, a friend or a people that hug their son who returns from a difficult competition."
Lazo stated that at every tense moment of the games they always had support from comrade Fidel and Raul, and the island's people, and exhorted them to rigorously analyze their participation.
"You and all executive and technicians of this sport should deeply study today's reflection by comrade Fidel you will receive at the end of this activity, to improve their sports qualities," Lazo stressed.
Frederich Cepeda, the most outstanding player of the island's team, confessed, "we are sad from the sporting point of view, but proud and satisfied, with the head held high and the will to continue to give our best to the Revolution."
Political Bureau member Pedro Saez Montejo, Cuban Olympic Committee president Jose Ramon Fernandez, as well as leaders from the Party, Young Communist League, National Institute of Sports, Physical Culture and Recreation, and the capital government also attended the act. (Prensa Latina)
