Books Night, Summer Programme Begin in Camagüey
Camagüey, July 6. – Literature lovers are waiting for the launching and sale of new books in the so-called Books Night festival, which will open the summer programme in Camagüey province.
The Provincial Book and Literature Center is the foremost organizer of this cultural event which will be held along Republica Street, the largest shopping street in the city.
Bookstores such as Ateneo-Vietnam and Mariana Grajales will serve as venues for the launching of 26 new titles published by Acana publishing house. These two bookstores will also be suitable and customary spaces for debates, discussions and cultural performances.
Head of Acana publishing house Odalys Calderín told reporters that among the many options there will be a dog show and the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets (FCBC) will put up for sale some of its handcrafted objects. The Ballet Folklórico de Camaguey and La Andariega children’s theatre company will also perform on the occasion of this reading festival.
Among the actions for the youngest, the “Olor a Guardarraya” Club is set to launch and sell children books. Besides, The Arlequín group will perform for the occasion.
For the last night of this festival, the socio-cultural project eJo will offer a show in which the flamenco music and dance group Sangre Gitana, TMD Cuba and Catalejo de Cuentos, a group of local storytellers, will play their part.
Books Night is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Young Communist League (UJC) and the 90th anniversary of the Federation of University Students (FEU), and to writers Nicolás Guillén, Dulce Maria Loynaz and Virgilio Piñera. (Rosa Varona Álvarez/Journalism Student/AIN).
