Economic efficiency, Major Goal for Eastern Granma Province
Bayamo, Cuba, July 9.- Government leaders in the Eastern province of Granma agreed to reinforce actions to achieve a more cost-efficient economy, boost the non-state sector and fight illegalities.
A report submitted to the delegates of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power (top local state and administration body), during sessions on Sunday, said that the territory managed to surpass its income program, while expenses were below schedules. The delegates considered the achievement as encouraging, particularly for a territory with usual budget deficit. They agreed to collect millions of Cuban pesos still to be paid by households that received domestic appliances during the government-led energy-serving program implemented years ago, which included the distribution, at favored prices, of fridges, electric cooking items and other products to replace highly energy-consuming appliances and equipment. The delegates requested the Provincial Administration Council, a body of the assembly, to reinforce the struggle against minor crimes affecting the local economy and damaging the performance of the non-state sector.
Provincial Assembly president Manuel Sobrino recalled that the people and the institutions in the territory are committed to eliminate the budget deficit in the 2011-2015 period.
Although the 2012 economic performance has been good, there is still important potential to take advantage of, while national standards are not being followed by some local enterprises, said the official.(ACN)
