Cuban Expert Says AIDS Epidemic Can End
 Washington, Jul 27.- HIV infection may end, but this requires strategies and actions that involve preventive, early and pre-expositional treatment, along with prevention, assured today here a Cuban expert.
Dr. Jorge Perez, director of the Tropical Medicine Institute "Pedro Kouri" (IPK), told Prensa Latina that the HIV incidence declined in some countries and specific areas, which prove the possibility of a solution to the epidemic.
However, this can not come from a single project, or through a miracle cure, it must be through a set of actions, among which also includes research and the search for new drugs and treatment regimens that improve the quality of life of those affected, emphasized Perez.
He further indicated the importance of including vulnerable groups in strategies to face HIV, that is to say people with risk behavior, men who have sex with men, injecting drug users, among others.
The Cuban expert attended the XIX International AIDS Conference which concluded on Friday in Washington, where he will coordinate a work session on HIV infection and chronic non transmissible diseases.
The day before, the famous specialist, and Maria Isela Lantero, head of HIV / AIDS program of the Ministry of Health of the island, explained the results of the strategy implemented in Cuba, which has enabled low HIV prevalence rates, the lowest in the Caribbean.
She assured that antiretroviral therapy is guaranteed to all who need it and highlighted the cooperation received from international organizations to strengthen the national plan, in particular the Global Fund to Fight HIV / AIDS.
