Venezuela's National Assembly Passes Aid Program for Haiti

Caracas, Aug 9.- Venezuela's National Assembly approved a program of cooperation with Argentina and Haiti today, intended to foster Haitian economic recovery. The agreement, called Strengthening Agriculture and Health in Haiti, seeks to assist that country in overcoming its dependence on imports, through the development of family farming.

The Vice President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Jesus Cepeda, said Tuesday that the agreement reflects the intention to give operational content to the commitment by South American countries.

During the regular meeting today, deputies also enacted the Fiscal Year 2012 Budget Act for the Island Territory Francisco de Miranda, aimed at establishing an estimate of revenue and funding sources.

It also indicates the maximum number of permits to be engaged along with expenses and approval procedures, and implementation and evaluation standards for the budget.
