Camagüey Holds National Ceremony Marking Day of Water Utility Worker
Camagüey, Aug 10. – The chairwoman of the Cuban Institute of Water Resources (INRH), Inés María Chapman Wauhg, congratulated all water utility workers and especially those in Camagüey province where the day dedicated to those working in this sector was observed today.
Chapman Wauhg, who is also member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and of the Council of State, praised the positive results that this province shows not only in the infrastructure but also in the rational use of water, its distribution to the population and its supply to economic programs.
Irvins de la Victoria Gómez, INRH representative in Camaguey stated that each company of this sector (a total of 11) shows good economic results and this province is Cuba’s second largest reserve of water with over 1,200 million cubic meters of it and the one with the greatest infrastructure, namely dams, water treatment plants, aqueducts and other facilities.
Besides she highlighted that the Cuban State has invested more than 40 million pesos to assess the quality of water for human consumption and ensures a service to over 485,000 people in this province.
Several outstanding workers and founders of this institution were awarded in the course of the ceremony.
When awarded the Jesus Menéndez Medal, inventor and innovator David Carballea said that the nearly 3,000 workers of this sector will continue working to improve the water resources program within the territory.
As part of the 50th anniversary of the Institute of Water Resources, founded on August 10, 1962, the reconstruction of the pipeline in El Diamante neighbourhood, in the city of Camagüey, has been done as well as the refurbishing of an old water pumping station that has been underexploitation since August, 1949.
