Electoral Preparations Mark Cuban Scene



Havana, Aug 18.- The notice for the summon of 8.5 million Cubans for general elections, with a first stop in October, gave account of the week that concludes today with in the electoral preparations in the country.

The number of voters is similar to that of the last elections, in line with demographic behavior, emphasized Julio Torres, one of the members of the National Electoral Commission (CEN).

The electoral register will be subjected to verification by the public when the lists have been published on September 22 for the election of delegates to the 168 municipal assemblies of the People's Power, put forward Torres during a press conference.

The first round of polls will be in October 21 and, if it is necessary there will be a second round on the 28 for choosing the municipal delegates, while the date to vote the provincial delegates and deputies to the National Assembly have not been set yet.

Speaking about the electoral register, the member of the CEN told reporters at the headquarters of the entity that it is public, official and permanent, which qualities have been established by the current legislation.

The president of the CEN, Alina Balseiro, reported that the national, provincial, municipal and district authorities have already been designated while there are still remaining those in charge of schools and the polling stations.

Likewise 14 000 500 constituencies have been approved, and within them about 50 thousand 900 areas, she added.

Among the voters will be about 200 000 youngsters who will exercise the right to vote for the first time in their lives in their 16, as one of the requirements. (Prensa Latina)
