Asian Solidarity with Cuba Forum to be Hosted by Sri Lanka in October
Havana, Cuba, Aug 21.- Preparations are well underway in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to host the 4th Regional Asian Conference in Solidarity with Cuba next October 21 and 22, with the attendance of a large number of Asian friendship organizations.
Cuban ambassador to Colombo Nirisia Castro told PL news agency that the meeting will reject the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the Caribbean nation and demand the return home of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters held in the United States. A Miami court gave Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Renée Gonzalez unfair sentences in 2001, after they monitored Florida-based terrorist organizations. The regional conference will coincide with the closing of the international campaign for the release of the Cuban prisoners and will take place in the period of the year, when the UN General Assembly annually votes the Cuban Resolution demanding the lifting of the US economic blockade, said the diplomat, who also noted that the opening of the event will take place October 20, National Culture Day in Cuba. The event will include a painting exhibit with works made by Cuban antiterrorist Antonio Guerrero in his prison cell, a collection he titled “The Nation through Butterflies.” A presentation of books on Cuba is also on the agenda of the event.
