Cuban VP Congratulates Radio Professionals on Anniversary
HAVANA, Cuba Aug 21.- Cuban Vice-President Esteban Lazo congratulated today the Cuban radio professionals that for nine decades have been the protagonists of relevant events.
Lazo sent an acknowledgment certificate s to the First International Biennial of the Cuban Radio where he praised the sector's contribution to the syndication of the best of the national culture and identity. Guillermo Pavon, vice president of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT), speaking at the opening session of the meeting, at the Tulipan Hotel, said the radio, in its own right, is a stronghold of the culture of the country. He said that this shows the validity of socialism, the conquered human rights and the democracy Cubans defend and objectively accompanies the process of updating the current economic model. The radio, like no other mass media, is called to lead this effort to be the one with the highest capacity, reach and immediacy in order to keep our public informed, he sustained. He urged the professionals gathered at the event to find a program design for different segments of the population, with emphasis on the younger, breaking homogeneous profiles and similar transmissions, and to contribute to the professional and technical training, to counter the propaganda of the international media against Cuba. Miguel Barnet, president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, was in charge of a special intervention on Cuban radio system's role in the formation of an educated and sensitive public. (ACN)
