Circuba Festival Kicks Off in Havana
Havana, Cuba, Aug 22.- With a gala at nine PM in the Havana's Karl Marx Theater the 11th Circuba Festival will kick off with the participation of artists from 16 countries and dedicated to Dr. Rodrigo Alvarez Cambra.
The competitive shows will be held at the Trompoloco Carp, through the 26th, the day on which prizes will be awarded and then the venue will move to Santiago de Cuba, through September 2. The Erdwin Fernandez in memoriam V International Clown Contest will run from the 23rd through the 26th in the Miramar Theatre, with the participation of Cuban artists and others from Argentina, El Salvador, Mexico and Venezuela. Circuba will then tour Cuba from September 4 to30, when a representation of Cuban and foreign artists will offer their art in the cities of Ciego de Avila, Sancti Spiritus, Cienfuegos, Havana and Pinar del Rio. The jury in this edition is made up of Cuban Germán Muñoz, director of the Havana circus company, Germany's Helmut Grosscurth, Chinese Wang Jingyu, Spanish Antonio Alvarez, French Raoul Gibault, British Laci Endresz, Venezuelan Oswaldo Garcia Darwin and Swiss Heinrich Gasser. Participants will compete for the Grand Prix, in their Gold Star, silver or bronze, popularity, Actress, Actor and Breakthrough Artist’s categories. Circuba grows each new edition for the quality of its competitors and it reaches a solid reputation as the best event of its kind in the Americas and it has become a launching pad for young artists who in Havana find a place their excellence to later perform in other circus around the world.(ACN)
