Alicia Alonso in Rome to Receive Prize
Havana, Cuba, Sep 6.- Prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, director of Cuba’s National Ballet Company, was received on Wednesday by authorities of Italy, where she will be given on Saturday the 2012 Leonide Massine Prize for her artistic career.
Welcoming Alicia were mayors Giovanni Alemanno and Michele De Lucia, of Rome and Positano, respectively, points out the Prensa Latina news agency. Also participating in the reception were Cuba’s ambassador to Italy, Milagros Carina Soto, and other officials of the diplomatic mission to that European nation. The prize was granted by the Jury unanimously, which was composed of Clement Crisp, of the United Kingdom; Anna Kisselgoff, of the United States; French Rene Sirvin; and Italian Alfio Agostini, among others.
