Cuban Senior Citizens will Celebrate their International Day

Havana, Cuba, Sept 6.- The elderly in Cuba will mark Senior Citizens’ Day on October 1 with a large cultural and scientific agenda, including culinary courses and chats on aging.

Activities will be organized by the City Historian’s Office to kick off September 21 with a homage to International Alzheimer Day, PL news agency reported.

The action will also pay tribute to late Cuban poet Jesus Orta Ruiz (1922-2005) with an exhibit of some of his books.

Senior citizens will take part of a culinary contest aimed at promoting the Cuban cuisine, as well as chats on a healthy diet for the elderly.

The program also includes concerts with traditional music, visits to museums and encounters with representatives of different generations of Cubans.

A scientific agenda will be based on lectures on how to prolong life and on specific health care and personal hygienic aspects related to senior persons.

International Senior Citizens’ Day was established by the United Nations. The date, October 1,  is marked in many ways around the world. (ACN)
