Elderly People Population Grows in Cuba’s Central Province



Camagüey, Oct 1.- Nearly 20 percent of the population in Camagüey province is 60 years old or older, and to improve the quality of life of this generation of Cubans the Socialist State channels countless resources.

In this Cuban province, the care programs for the elderly show favorable results in a series of indicators, among them the survival rate, which reflects the significant growth of this age group.

In this regard, improving their quality of life and extend life expectancy are priorities of the public health system in this Cuban province.

With this aim in mind, multidisciplinary teams are working in 13 municipalities and in nine health areas located in the administrative center of this province, where the eldest population is densest.

Old people's homes and senior citizens’ clubs exist across the province, and qualified personnel, including doctors, nurses and social workers work in these facilities. (Mariela Peña Seguí/Radio Cadena Agramonte.)
