German Lawmaker Vouches for Cuban Five

Havana, Apr 8.- German legislator Norman Paech has urged the world for greater support in the case of the five Cuban anti-terrorists unfairly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.

Paech, who also teaches international law, is among the personalities urging for the immediate release of the Five, as the group is known worlwide.

The world has shown great support for Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino and Rene Gonzalez who have remained in jail for more than a decade for fighting terrorism.

Paech told Juventud Rebelde daily that he will submit an amicus curiae to the US Supreme Court in favor of the five Cubans, who were not given a fair trial.

His letter exposes the reasons why this case deserves another Supreme Court review and informs people of their inhumane situation that is a violation of their rights.

Paech says that never before have so many "friends of the court" documents been sent about one case. The group includes Nobel prize winners,
lawyers, and human rights activists throughout the world.  (Prensa Latina)
