Economy Grows but Efficiency Should Be Better
Guáimaro, Camagüey, July 24 – First Secretary of Cuba's Communist Party (PCC) in Camagüey Julio César García Rodríguez delivered the closing remarks of the rally marking the 57th anniversary of the rebel attacks on Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, in which he referred to the growth registered by the economy in this central province and called its fellow citizens to be more efficient and productive.
García Rodríguez stated that, the territory had to readjust its productive, social and financial plans in order to grow economically.
He added that the province met an assortment of indicators such as the circulation of goods, the fund's export program and the income to the State. In addition, he noted that there is a favorable interrelation between the growth of productivity and the wages. Yet, the levels of efficiency and productivity are insufficient.
Camagüey top political leader said that strengthening the import substitution program and increasing the exports is still a priority. He highlighted that 28 companies with 131 products will join this initiative.
On the other hand, García Rodríguez added that there is a majority presence of Cuban products in the chain of hard currency stores. However, it is essential to improve the quality and seek new formulae for the marketing of these products and services in the island.
García Rodríguez also said that investments to the value of 160 million pesos were carried out during 2009, in sectors such as the animal husbandry, the sugar cane industry, the food producing industry and the market; the education, the culture, the sport and the public health sectors.
The improvement of the tourist infrastructure and of the chain of hard currency stores and the renovation of roads and communication system are other economic targets this territory ought to focus on.
He added that the investment has been funneled to improve works and programs which are instrumental in the economic and social life.
