Camagüey: Foreign Students Participate in May Day Parade

Friends of Cuba who are taking university courses in the province of Camaguey participate in Mady Day parade. They joined their voices to those who at the Ignacio Agramonte Square ratify the conquest of the Socialist Revolution.

This morning I talked to one of those young students, who is also member of Amigos de Cuba International Work Brigade. His name is Poliecio de Matos Lacerda, a Brazilian young man who studies at Carlos J. Finlay Highest Institute of Medicine  (ISCM) in this city.

What does sharing this May Day celebration in Cuba
mean to you?

“It is pleasure to be again at the Plaza with the Cubans, representing the Amigos de Cuba Brigade, because we, its members, have many reasons to be here, because it is part of our objective and duties, to fight for social justice and hoist the flags against the US blockade and demand the release of the Cuban Five.

“I’d like to add the enormous gratitude we have to the people of Camagüey that have given us their support, because in Brazil is almost impossible for us to study medicine; however the Revolution has opened its arms to we all.”

“The less we can do is being side by side with the Cuban people this day.”

De Matos  Lacerda is member of Brazil's Landless Rural Workers' Movement and he as a son of a farmer repeats his will to remain on the side of the people and their Revolution.

You are carrying a placards in which you demand the soon release of the five Cubans who are servicing long prison sentences in US jails. What other things have you done to support this cause?

“We have participated in several voluntary works and other solidarity events besides last 17 April Is the International Day for the agrarian reform and pay homage to 19 comrades of the Landless movement who were killed then. We work very hard so that the rest of the world can understand the meaning of our struggle and people join the cause of the Cuban Five.

Poliecio de Matos  Lacerda is one of the friends of Cuba that this morning was together with the people of Camagüey at the square supporting 50th anniversary of the Revolution and its historic leaders Fidel and Raul Castro.  (Yamylé Fernández Rodríguez/Radio Cadena Agramonte).
