Cuba to Celebrate International Translation Day
Havana, Cuba, Sept 21.- The Association of Cuban Translators and Interpreters (ACTI), a member of the International Federation of Translators (FIT) since 2002, will join worldwide celebrations to mark International Translation Day on September 30.
A note from ACTI reads that the date will be marked with diverse actions to promote at the national level the professional objectives of the community of Cuban translators, interpreters and terminologists.
FIT is a worldwide organization, composed of nearly 110 national translation organizations from over 60 countries. It represents over 100,000 translators worldwide.
International Translation Day is celebrated every year on 30 September on the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator who is considered as the patron saint of translators. The celebrations have been promoted by FIT ever since it was set up in 1953.
In 1991 FIT launched the idea of an officially recognized International Translation Day to show solidarity of the worldwide translation community in an effort to promote the translation profession in different countries. (ACN).
