Cuba and Venezuela Support Nicaragua Literacy Campaign
HAVANA, Cuba, May 6.- Nicaraguan Education Minister Miguel de Castilla said that the literacy campaign undertaken in his country by the government of President Daniel Ortega is making progress with the support of Cuba and Venezuela.
The top official said that 64 of the Central American nation’s municipalities are already free of that scourge, and informed that illiteracy has been reduced from 33 to 5.68 percent, reports Granma newspaper on its web site.
De Castilla announced the results of the literacy teaching crusade known as From Martí to Fidel, which is presently in its most advanced stage and will allow for most of the country’s municipalities to be free of illiterates by the end of June. (ACN)
