Homage Paid to Journalist and Painter of Camagüey in Havana
Camagüey, Cuba, Nov 16 - The book entitled “Victoria sobre una traición”, by journalist Jorge Luis Betancourt was launched in Havana in a meeting during which the members of the Asociación de Camagüeyanos Ausentes (Camagüey-born personalities who reside in the Cuban capital) also honored artist Agustín Bejarano.
Betancourt’s book -an important abridgement of the events occurred in Camagüey on October 21, 1959, when Huber Matos’ sedition was thwarted- was labeled a remarkable historic document in the meeting held in the Plaza de la Revolucion community arts center.
As for Agustín Bejarano’s work, the presents also applauded his art which appears in the main catalogs and exhibitions in Cuba and abroad.
Betancourt also used the occasion to announce his new literary projects: “Inicio de la gesta alfabetizadora” (a book about the literacy campaign in Cuba) and “Minas de Frío, Fragua de Guerrilleros” in which he collects testimonies of veterans of the Rebel Army who remember Ernesto Che Guevara while heading the Recruit School in the Sierra Maestra.
