British Cruise Ship Thomson Dream Docks in Havana

Havana, Cuba, Jan 5.- British cruise ship Thomson Dream will arrive in Havana to stay for two nights as part of its voyage through the Caribbean Sea.

The ship, belonging to the British Thomson Cruises, carries 1800 passengers and will dock in Cuba till March five times, according to sources from the Tourism Ministry.

Reception agency Cubatur will welcome the tourists, some 1400, who will enjoy several activities in the capital city, including the famed “Cannon Blast”, a military ceremony that takes place every night at 9 PM in the La Cabana Fortress.

They will also attend the Tropicana Cabaret show, visit Old Havana, the Vinales Valley in easternmost Pinar del Rio province and the Zapata Swamp in Matanzas.

The Thomson Dream starts its trip from Cozumel, Mexico, and includes stops at Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Barbados, Curacao, Aruba and the Colombian city of Santa Marta.

The number of cruises arriving to Cuba is on the rise from the beginning of operations of the Spanish Gemini and will also include in 2011 the Russian Adriana, wich will circumnavigate Cuba.

This activity had decreased 89 percent from 2005 to 2007 when the US Royal Caribbean bought Spanish Pullmantur, owner of the Holiday Dream that used to dock in Cuba and couldn’t anymore, due to the US economic blockade to Cuba. (acn).
