World Environment Day for a Planetary Society
By Mariela Peña Seguí/ Radio Cadena Agramonte
Each day life is renewed. The confirmation of our existence comes with every daybreak, and it gives us back the breath to resume life. But in a day like today, life is bent on telling us that we are not alone, that we are not an island in the middle of nowhere.
In a day like today, life is bent on telling us that we live in a world full of colors and smiles, and this world is calling us into account.
Since 1972, each June 5th marks the World Environment Day, a date that was established by the UN General Assembly.
This day is a way to raise the worldwide awareness on global environmental issues so that each person and nation can enjoy a more prosperous and safe future.
Street demonstrations, pro-ecological concerts, tree planting and recycling campaigns are organized around the world.
All good that is created, everything a man or a woman can feel, exist in our planet that throbs and lets itself be loved like a child upon his mother’s lap.
Mother Earth must be seen like that, must be cared like that, for it is desperately claiming us to raise our hands to hold it.
That’s why each June 5th, people all over the world raise their voices to tell that we have listened to the help request, and we are responding to it.
