Venezuela Commemorates Anniversary of Cuba’s Victory in Bay of Pigs

Havana, Cuba, Apr 16 “The Cuban and Venezuelan peoples share the honor of having defeated the U.S. Imperialism,” said Venezuela’s Vice President Elias Jaua during a ceremony on Friday in Caracas to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the declaration of the Socialist nature of the Cuban Revolution and of the victory against the U.S.-backed mercenary invasion of Bay of Pigs.

Jaua noted that, while the Cubans beat the Bay of Pigs military invasion, the Venezuelans imitated them nine years ago when they rescued President Hugo Chavez after a coup d’état against his government.

“Cubans and Venezuelans share common ground in their struggles for peace and love, in the face of the culture of death and terror promoted by the U.S. Imperialism,” said the high-ranking official.

“Peoples, united and organized, can defeat an empire, regardless of how powerful it might be, and with dignity and consciousness they can build their own future,” Jaua added.

Present in the ceremony at the Military Academy in Caracas were the president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Fernando Soto; the Minister of Defense, Carlos Mata Figueroa; and the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Rogelio Polanco; among other personalities. (ACN)
