Machado Ventura Conveys a Message of Congratulations by Fidel and Raul to the Ciego de Avila Residents
Camagüey, July 26.- In his speech on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the Moncada garrison attack and on behalf of Fidel, Raul and the people of Cuba, VP José Ramon Machado Ventura congratulated the residents of Ciego de Avila for being the actors of the breakthroughs of this central province during the current year.
Winding up the central public meeting marking the National Rebellion Day, which is being held in Ciego de Avila, Machado also echoed the sentiment of gratitude of the Cuban people towards those who participated in the attack on the Moncada army barracks on July 26th, 1953, and the combatant people whose iron-clad will is still the main guarantee and the right to be owners of their future, definitively conquered on January 1, 1959.
He added that this is the third time Ciego de Avila hosts the national ceremony marking this historical event, the first was in 1980, a few years after the 1976 administrative division when it became a province, the second in 2002 and now which is a fair recognition to the progress attained by this province in diverse fields.
This is a land of mambises (19th-century rebels fighting Spain) and mentioned the example of Colonel Simón Reyes, and the revolutionary young people and martyrs of the likes of Raul Cervantes, Ricardo Pérez Alemán, Pedro Martínez Brito and Roberto Rodríguez (El Vaquerito), glorious representatives of the province and inspirers of the Revolution.
