Six Local Artists Are Putting their Work on Show in Camagüey

Camagüey, Cuba, Oct 17.- The fifth and last edition of the exhibition project: Here! Contemporary art? which is featuring pieces of six Camaguey-resident fine artists is open to art lovers from now until November at Julián Morales Gallery, placed in the provincial venue of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

Curator Jorge Santos Caballero highlighted that art always has something to say, especially when it is done by women. “From their visual appreciation and aesthetic concepts, these women show which are their intellectual responsibilities towards the world undergoing now a major capitalist crisis that is affecting the people more and more, one way or another”.

The fifth edition of this project comprises 20 works by fine artists Ilena Sánchez Hing, Alejandrina Silvera Guerra, Yolanda Ulloa Hernández, Caridad Hernández Carlo, Annette Pichs Sánchez and Yesy González Ramos.

These artists belong to different generations, trends and influences. And as Santos Caballeros says: “they are down-to-earth women because they know what they want to convey and try to analyze our reality from two perspectives: real and fictitious”.

The exhibit’s visual poetry conveys “the Cuban culture and aims at presenting a reality from different angles with particular viewpoints”. (Lázaro David Najarro Pujol/ Radio Cadena Agramonte).
