Camagueyan Young Woman Says that the Blockade Prevents Spiritual Growth of Children

By Olga Pardo San Roman/ Radio Cadena Agramonte.

All sectors of the economic and social life in Cuba suffer consequences of the blockade imposed by the United States government with the aim to defeat our country.

Cuba allocates every year myriads of dollars to buying teaching material in third countries, because this extraterritorial politics prevents its procurement in the United States.

“The blockade prevents the purchase of physical, chemical and biological laboratory equipment, for Cuban universities, junior and high schools”, Elianis Barrios Borges, student of Enrique Jose Varona Pre-university School, who is the president of the Federation of High School Students (FEEM) in Camaguey province, said.

“The special education suffers also consequences of the North American politics, Elianis says, because it makes the procurement of Braille machines complex; equipment required for learning of blind and visually impaired persons.

“The country today needs more than 75,000 dollars to satisfy this deficit.

“We are speaking about children who cannot learn to read Braille, or it is very difficult, although Cuba has highly skilled professionals in all the spheres of the special education”.

Elianis Barrios Borges recognized a undeniable truth in every Cuban education center: despite the blockade, Cuba sustains indisputable achievements in the education, always with the premise of the solidarity and the internationalism.
