World Urbanism Day, a Date the City of Camagüey Particularly Values

 Today, the World Urbanism Day is internationally observed. This celebration was proposed by the late Argentinean Professor Carlos Maria della Paolera, who requested this in 1949 to encourage those professionals engaged in the preservation of the city and its landscapes.
This celebration also pays tribute to those who favor the development of Camagüey province and its many settlements, in order to make more beautiful, functional and usable the different sites of this land of ours.
Today is also a great opportunity to acknowledge those who have worked tirelessly to guarantee the order and beauty of Camagüey’s administrative center, for example civil engineer Miguel Ávalos Macías, chief architect of the renovation of the whole religious heritage of Camagüey, a city that will be celebrating its 500th anniversary in 2014.
In addition, the respects are also paid to Ph.D. Noel Iraola Valdés, a civil engineer, who has dedicated all his determination and efforts to the renovation works in this city, and to architect Margarita de la Cruz Estenoz, who worked in the design of the new 200-appartment settlement down in Santa Cruz del Sur.
The working group belonging to the Town Planning Provincial Direction -which plays a major role in the functional and appropriate development of the province-, was also praised today.
After the triumph of the Revolution, on January 1st, 1959, important large-scale construction works have been concluded in Camagüey, such as Julio Antonio Mella and Previsora housing districts, a set of apartment buildings in the municipality of Jimaguayú and other settlements that comfort the inhabitants living in those places. At present, there is another considerable civil work in Los Coquitos outlying neighborhood.
Many people, including professionals, are dedicating their efforts everyday to guarantee healthy, clean and green places to live life to the fullest.
