Spanish Paintings Soon on Display at Havana’s National Museum of Fine Arts

Havana, Cuba, Jan 13.- The exhibition “Artal’s Painters” will be on display at Havana’s Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA) from February 10th through April 29th, with a collection of paintings promoted by Spanish banker Jose Artal.

The 54 pieces pertaining to the MNBA’s Spanish Art Collection highlight the artistic quality, diversity of themes and stylistic currents of 19th century, as recently informed to the press by curator Manuel Crespo, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

The exhibition, an approach to the Artal phenomenon, also includes 28 palettes of these artists, which belonged to the wife of the art dealer, Carmen Odena.

Artal (1862-1918), who settled in Buenos Aires in the last quarter of the 19th century, was a businessman who was related to fine arts.

This phenomenon is considered of great significance for Latin America, due to the circulation of Spanish art south of the Rio Grande, pointed out Crespo.

In this way, the entrepreneur promoted acclaimed artists, and also proposed contacts with young talents. (acn).
