Int'l Book Fair Reaches Cuban Eastern Provinces
Havana, Feb 29.- The International Book Fair Cuba 2012 has arrived on Wednesday in Cuba’s eastern provinces, from Ciego de Avila to Guantanamo, beginning the last stage of this year’s literary fest.
altActivities related to the fair, which will close next March 4th, began in Las Tunas early February with the commemorations for the 60th birth anniversary of late local writer Guillermo Vidal Ortiz. Highlights of the event in Las Tunas will be the presentation of the website of the “Jose Marti” Provincial Library, as well as a lecture by Dr. María del Carmen Barcia on the Aponte Conspiracy.
In Holguin will take place a series of actions to honor prominent Cuban literary figures, including a panel dedicated to writer-playwright Virgilio Piñeira called “La carne verbal de Virgilio,” the conference Half Century of Carpentier and “Con las mismas manos”, an event to commemorate 50 years of the homonym poetry book by Roberto Fernandez Retamar.
The editorial house The Sea and the Mountains is preparing for the presentation of more than ten books in the province of Guantánamo, where a wide range of cultural and academic activities will be carried out as part of the Book Fair.
In Santiago de Cuba, a busy agenda of events will add more excitement and color to the already agitated life of the Caribbean city, featuring academic spaces dedicated to the racial issue in Cuba and the presentation of books like “Ethnic components of the Cuban nation” by Jesus Guanche, “Insurgent Cuba, Race, Nation and Revolution” by Ada Ferrer and “La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre” by Olga Portuondo.(Taken from Radio Habana Cuba)
