US Blockade Against Cuba Useless, Says The Vatican

Rome, Mar 16.- The Holy See described the US blockade against Cuba as a useless policy that generates suffering.

In a press conference on occasion of the upcoming Pope's trip to Mexico and Cuba, Spokesman for the Vatican Federico Lombardi said the Holy See does not think that policy is a positive, useful measure. "It has not being for any good," he said.

Lombardi also said the people are who suffer the consequences of the US policy, an economic, commercial, financial siege imposed for over half a century on Cuba, which attributes to that measure over 975 billion USD in damages.

The Vatican spokesman highlighted the good physical condition of Pope Benedict XVI to travel to Mexico on March 23-26 and then to Cuba on March 26-28.

"He is very well and his willingness to make such an exhausting journey confirms this assertion," he added.

The Pope's trip to Mexico and Cuba is his second to Latin America after that made to Brazil on 2007. (Prensa Latina).
