Ironically the song “Te vi como las flores”, written by Camaguey-born traditional singer-sonwriter Patricio Ballagas Palacio, was sung for the first time on February 15, 1920, the day he drew his last breath. Thereafter, the song was renamed “Adiós a la vida” (Farewell to Life).
Havana, Cuba, Feb 8.- Cuban vedette Maria de los Angeles Santana passed away in Havana on Monday night at the age of 96.
The renowned actress and singer, born in Havana, began her prolific career in the 1930s when she was hired by Peliculas Cubanas S.A. to participate in the 1938 film ‘Romance del Palmar’ by Ramon Peon Garcia. In the following years, she participated in ‘Mi tia de America’, ‘Estampas
habaneras’ and Cancionero cubano.’
Holguin, Cuba, Jan 18.- Israel Rojas, director of the Cuban group Buena Fe announced on Monday in this city that it will perform in Venezuela, Argentina, Spain and the United States in 2011, as part of its international tour.
