Culture became impregnated with the Revolutionary spirit that characterized those who were born in this nation, even before October 20th, 1868 when the Cuban Anthem was first sung, once the mambises (19th-century rebels fighting Spain) liberated the village of Bayamo from the colonial yoke and those founding fathers reaffirmed the independence and sovereignty of the island.

Camagüey, Mar 6. - An extended and updated print of the book Reto a la Soledad: Memorias y desmemorias de un sobreviviente (A Challenged to Solitude) by Colonel Orlando Cardoso Villavicencio, was launched in the city of Camaguey, some 530 kilometers east of Havana, in occasion of the 19th International Book Fair.
