Reflections by Comrade Fidel Castro: The 67th Anniversary of the Victory over Nazi-Fascism

No political event can be judged outside of the era and the circumstances in which it took place. No one even knows one percent of the fabulous history of Man; but thanks to history, we know about occurrences that go beyond the limits of the imaginable. The privilege of having known persons, even…

I will hardly refer to the Cuban people, who one day rid their country of the United States domain, when the imperialist system had reached the height of its power.Men and women of different ages paraded on May Day down the most symbolic squares in all provinces of the country. Our Revolution eme…

Reflections by Comrade Fidel Castro: What Obama Knows

The most demolishing article I have seen nowadays about Latin America was written by Renán Vega Cantor, full professor at the National Pedagogical University of Bogotá, which was published three days ago by the website ‘Rebelión’ under the title “Ecos de la Cumbre de las Américas” (Echoe…

Fidel Castro Notes Politicians ''Role in Light of Peoples'' Problem

Havana, Cuba, Apr 17.- The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, said that in the immediate future, humanity will have to face problems for which the peoples expect clear responses from politicians.

In his latest Reflections, entitled "Sleeping with Eyes Open", Fidel Castro referred to the recently-concluded Summit of the Americas, held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, where representatives from 33 countries of the western hemisphere gathered. The vast majority of them, he said, demand answers to economic and social problems of great importance that hit the region with the most unequal distribution of wealth in the world.

I do not want to anticipate the views of millions of people, capable of analyzing in depth and in cold blood the problems of Latin America, the Caribbean and the rest of a globalized world, where

few have everything and others have nothing, he said.

No matter what it is call, the system imposed by imperialism in this hemisphere is exhausted and
    cannot stand up.

Fidel Castro referred to the participation of U.S. President Barack Obama in the meeting, who sometimes was defeated by fatigue and closed his eyes involuntarily, but sometimes he slept with his eyes open.

Far from the brilliant and lucid thought of Bolivar and Marti are the words chewed, sweetened and monotonously repeated by the illustrious Nobel Prize winner, said in a ridiculous tour of the fields of Colombia and which I listened to yesterday afternoon, Fidel Castro affirmed.

According to the Cuban leader, those words served only to recall the speeches of the Alliance for Progress, 51 years ago, when the monstrous crimes that hit this hemisphere had not yet been committed, where Cuba fought not only for the right to independence, but to exist as a nation.

Fidel Castro stressed that the Yankee transnational companies will never give in controlling the land, water, mines and natural resources of our countries.

Its soldiers should leave military bases and withdraw its troops from each and every of our territories, give in to unequal trade and plundering our nations," he expressed.

According to Fidel Castro, Colombians, in whose country the discredited Summit was held, are industrious and sacrificed people who, as others, need the help from their Latin American brothers, in this case, Venezuelans, Brazilians, Ecuadorians, Peruvians and others.

With that partnership the countries can do what the Yankees, with their sophisticated weapons, their expansionism and their insatiable material appetite, will never do, he emphasized.

Like no other time in history, he stressed, Jose Marti's farsighted formula would be necessary: Trees are to line up in order not to allow the seven-league giant to come through! It is time to reckon, and to walk together, and we must go forward in close ranks, like silver in the roots of the Andes.

Perhaps the Latin American and Caribbean Community (ECLAC) will become what it should be, a hemispheric political organization, except the United States and Canada. Its decadent and unsustai nable empire has already won the right to rest in peace, Fidel Castro noted. (Prensa Latina).

    Sweetened Realities that Fade Away

I was surprised today when I listened to the speech delivered by Jose Miguel Insulza in Cartagena. I thought that the person who was speaking on behalf of the OAS would at least claim some respect for the sovereignty of the peoples of this hemisphere which were for years colonized and cruelly exploited by colonial powers.

I took a good look at Obama in the famous “Summit Meeting”. Sometimes he was overcome by tiredness, he unwillingly shut his eyes but, at times, he slept with open eyes.

    The Summit of the Guayaberas

Obama, the first black president of the United States –who is, without any doubt, an intelligent, well educated and eloquent person-, made quite a few people believe that he was an emulator of Abraham Lincoln or Martin Luther King.

Reflections by Comrade Fidel: Stephen Harper’s Illusions

I think –and I do not intend to offend anyone- that this is how the Prime Minister of Canada is called.  I deduced it from a statement published on “Holy Wednesday” by a spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of that country. The   United Nations Organization membership is made up by almost 200 States –allegedly independent States.  They continuously change or are forced into change.  Many of their representatives are honorable persons, friends of Cuba; but it is impossible to remember the specifics about each and every one of them.

The search for the political truth will always be a difficult task even in our times, when science has placed in our hands a huge amount of knowledge. One of the most important was the possibility to know and study the fabulous power of the energy contained in matter.

The filmed scenes of the massacre in Libya, starting to be seen, offend for their total absence of humanism and the crass lies that served as an excuse for invading and taking over the natural resources of that country.
