Guáimaro, Camagüey, July 23 - Carmen Andonián, who lives in the small farming village of Galbis, located to the north-east of this city, is happy because from today on she will be receiving the benefits of a water supply system, an inauguration that has been dedicated to the 57th anniversary of the rebel attack on the Moncada Barracks.



“Until now they brought us water in tank trucks once in a week, from today on the liquid will be running in our own houses,” she said gratefully.  

This is one of the services inaugurated today in Guáimaro -some 80 km east of the city of Camagüey- for having got the venue for this year's provincial celebration, marking the 57th anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks.

Receiving the keys of the new houses.The aqueduct built by the Cuban State, was partially financed by Catholic organization Cáritas Internationalis which helped to purchase a small water treatment plant, a power generator and over 7 kilometers of hose to pump water from the near reservoir to the dwelling places.

Some 130 houses will receive the benefit during the first stage of the project, however when the work is done a total of 278 will be favored.  

In some neighborhoods of this municipality, bordered by Las Tunas province in the east, 26 houses were handed to families whose properties were destroyed by Hurricanes Ike and Paloma in 2008.  

Mayor Luis Beltrán pointed out that so far 157 houses has been built of a total of 251 that they should complete by the year’s end.
