Guáimaro, Camagüey, July 24 - A message of gratitude was sent from Camagüey easternmost municipality to the five Cubans unjustly held in U.S. jails for trying to stop terrorist attacks against their homeland, and whose “inspiring steadfastness, patriotism and example assure us that someday they will return”, said Héctor Rodríguez Beltrán, first secretary of Communist Party (PCC) in Guáimaro, where Cuba’s first constitution was signed.

Still proud for having been designated to hold the rally marking the 57th anniversary of the rebel attack on the Moncada Barracks, Rodríguez Beltrán stated that the people’s joy and satisfaction is not only because of the results got in 2009, but also for the commitment that entails remaining in the front row of the best municipalities within Cuba’s largest province.

The cadre also spoke about the enthusiastic mass movement that this designation originated among the inhabitants of this municipality and contributed to complete some community projects for the benefit of its residents.

In this regard, Rodríguez Beltrán mentioned the refurbishing of facilities owned by the Martyrs of Cascorro Agricultural Production Cooperatives, the renovation of a stretch of Cuba’s Central Road and of the Adriano Nieves Daycare Center and a pizza restaurant, the construction of a water supply system in the village of Galvis, and the handout of 26 houses.

Rodríguez Beltrán added that the inhabitants of this historical municipally have new challenges ahead, including the construction of new houses and the sowing of 80 caballerias of land (one caballería = 13,420 hectares).

Another important challenge for this portion of island is to end up the year with an infant mortality rate of four per 1000 live births. (Esther Borges Moya / Radio Cadena Agramonte).
