Raul Castro Acknowledges the Effort of Many in Santa Cruz del Sur PDF Print E-mail

Camagüey, Cuba, July 26.-  During the celebration of July 26 Holiday in Holguin, Cuban President Raul Castro publicly acknowledged the people of Santa Cruz del Sur, Camagüey; who suffered severe damages last year when Category 3 Hurricane Paloma lashed that fishing town on October 8th, 2008.


The Army General extended the congratulation to the people of Holguin, who being protagonist of a tremendous recovery, deserved the designation to host the national rally marking the National Rebelliousness Day in the island this year.

In his address to the people that packed the Calixto Garcia square, Raul also praised the effort of the provinces of Las Tunas, Pinar del Rio and the Isle of Youth, as well as all Cubans who showed solidarity and unselfishness toward the victims of those storms.

The also Second Secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party referred to the countless damages caused by three hurricanes in the Cuban territory, and mentioned the actions that have been taken to avoid the effects of recurrent droughts in previous years, recalling when water was brought by train to almost three million Cubans.

In that regard, he informed that the first stage of a project that would transfer water from East to West; will be open in August, an expensive work that would ensure the supply of water to northern Holguin and its provincial capital.

Raul Castro highlighted that this will be a project for the present and the future in which water will be a scare resource. He also mentioned the works that have been carried out to find solutions to the sewer system and the city main in Holguin. (Tay Toscano Jerez/Radio Cadena Agramonte)
