Havana, Mar 21.- On the closing session of a two-day conference held in Havana by the Cuban Foreign Affairs Ministry and representatives from every department of the European Union, coinciding with the visit of EU Commissioner on Development and Humanitarian Aid Louis Michell, the Head of the Development Commission of the European Parliament Stefano Mansivieci, said that every goal set up for this meeting was satisfactorily met.
The conference was divided into seven commissions to discuss issues relating to food security, loans, trade, social aspects and other issues of bilateral interest.
Mansievici praised Cuban international cooperation regarding public health and education. He also said that the present economic crisis demands swift action and a dialogue based on mutual respect.
Mansievici said that Cuba has made significant progress regarding the Millennium Development Goals, and that Cuba is helping other nations achieve such goals, and that that attitude is one of the many elements that bring the European Union and Cuba together.
For his part, Cuban Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Ricardo Guerrero thanked the European Union for the humanitarian assistance provided to Cuba on the wake of three powerful hurricanes in 2008, and said that the re-launch of cooperation between the European Union and Cuba is based on the principles of non-interference and self-determination.
