Havana, Cuba, Aug 17.- Preparations for the first stage of general elections, to take place October 21-28 in Cuba, are satisfactorily underway, according to electoral authorities.
The president of the National Electoral Commission (CEN) Alina Balseiro stressed the support of the population and the full commitment to the task and high responsibility in their duties by all officials appointed to organize and lead the electoral process.
With this factor guaranteed, the upcoming election of candidates is expected to see the massive participation of the people, said Balseiro, who added that electoral commission members at all levels are currently taking training, prior to the opening of candidate nomination assemblies, which will take place September 3-29.
At the same time, electoral authorities are identifying over 50 900 nomination sectors in all constituencies and drawing up the nomination assembly schedules.
The general registration of voters has been updated with the information necessary to make the different lists of eligible voters. Such lists will be published next month, said CEN official Julio Torres Garcia.
The voters registration includes some 8 million Cubans, 200 thousand of whom will vote for the first time in this year’s elections, said Torres Garcia.
