Cuban Electoral Authorities Publish Voters Lists for Municipal Elections
Havana, Cuba, Sept 21.- The voters’ registers for the upcoming October 21 municipal elections are being published in Cuba Friday and Saturday, said National Electoral Commission member Julio Torres.
In statements to PL news agency, Torres said that the vogters’ lists are being published so that the population and territorial electoral commissions may check them and suggest any changes if necessary. Following this process, the lists with the voters names will be ready to be officially published for the poll.
According to the announcement of the general elections by the Cuban Council of State, voters will elect delegates to municipal assemblies on October 21, while the date to vote provincial government delegates and deputies to the National Parliament will be announced later.
Torres said that the electoral register includes some 8.5 million Cubans, a figure similar to previous elections in April 2010. The systematic update of the voters’ register includes new information related to changes of place, deceases or people who emigrate, among other specific data.
As the validation of the electoral register starts, the nomination of candidates to be elected delegates to municipal governments is now on its final stage throughout the country and it will wind up September 29. (ACN)
