Ban Ki-moon Praises Cuba’s Role at the United Nations
Havana, Cuba, Feb 5.- United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stressed the role played by Cuba at the world organization as he received the credentials of the new Cuban permanent representative Rodolfo Reyes.
The Cuban diplomat presented his accreditation on Monday to Ki-moon, who underscored the work of Cuba in relation to major UN international issues, such as disarmament, climate change and the performance of the international organization.
In statements to PL news agency, Rodolfo Reyes referred to the importance given by Ki-moon to Cuba’s assumption of the pro-tempore presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
Cuban president Raul Castro took on that responsibility last week during the summit of that sub-continental bloc, held in Chile, he said.
In his conversation with the UN director general, the new ambassador reiterated Cuba’s commitment to the functions and objectives of the United Nations. (ACN)
