HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 1.- Cuban jazz pianist Chucho Valdes won the Best Latin Jazz Album award during the 2010 Grammy awards ceremony that took place on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
The award was granted to Valdes for the album “Juntos Para Siempre” (Together Forever), in which he plays with his father Maestro Bebo Valdes.
Chuco Valdes, who now has four Grammy awards, is a pianist, composer and instrumentalist regarded by critics as one of the top four jazz players of the world.
Other winners were Puerto Rican duo Calle 13, Austrian keyboarder Joe Zawinul and trumpet player Terence Blanchard while the Record of the Year award went to Kings of Leon for ‘Use Somebody’ beating other nominees such as Beyonce, the Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift.
Beyonce was the big winner of the night with six awards while the Black Eyed Peas received three. (acn).
