Havana, Cuba, Mar 27.- The Cuban Osleni Guerrero, Giraldilla of Havana International Badminton Tournament defending champion, will debut today against Guatemalan Humblers Heymard, in the first round of the contest.
The competition, which turns 15 and runs until March 30 at the Sports City Coliseum, brings together 75 competitors from 13 countries.
Guerrero, top badminton player of the Western Hemisphere and placed 54th in the world rankings, will have tough rivals in this event such as the American Bjorn Seguin, 93rd in the world list; the Czech Jan Frohlich, current runner up of the tourney and Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon, Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games monarch, where he beat Guerrero, who suffered a severe injure on his knees last year.
The event is also attended by 10 other Cuban players, among which are Ernesto Reyes and Leodanis Martinez, members of the national pre selection.
The Giraldilla of Havana International Badminton Tournament grants 2 500 points to the winners of each category. (acn)
