Havana, Cuba, Jun 25.- Russian Kirsan Nikolayevich Iliumzhinov, president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), arrived in Cuba on Thursday with the purpose of taking part in the closing ceremony of the 50th edition of the Capablanca in Memoriam Chess Tournament, under way at the Habana Libre Hotel in this capital.
Iliumzhinov was welcomed at the capital’s José Martí International Airport by Roberto Leon, First Vice-president of the Cuban Sports Institute (INDER) and by members of the Cuban Chess Federation.
During his stay on the island until Saturday, he will hold a working meeting with Dr. Antonio Becali, president of the INDER, among other activities.
This is the third time that the president of the International Chess Federation visits Havana during his mandate. (ACN)
