As an important issue, the diplomat outlined the process in which Cuba has been involved since December 17, 2014, when the governments of Cuba and the United States announced the beginning of talks to reestablish diplomatic relations and the beginning of the path towards the normalization of bilateral ties.
He recalled that the return home of all Cuban Five, who were held in US prisons for fighting terrorism, was completed that day, and that Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, who along with Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, are a reason of pride for the country and an example of firmness.
In his closing remarks, Jimenez said that it will be a long and difficult struggle that will require national and international action, including by US society, to have the blockade of Cuba lifted.
Jimenez also noted that in order to normalize relations, it will be essential that the territory illegally occupied by the US naval base in Guantanamo is returned, radio and television broadcasts to Cuba are suspended, and projects aimed at promoting internal subversion and destabilization are stopped.(Prensa Latina)
