Havana, Cuba, Nov 24.- Cuban Osleni Guerrero retained the crown of the 9th Suriname International Badminton Tournament by defeating 2-0 (21-11 and 21-16) American Howard Shu.
Guerrero won the title for the third consecutive year in a competition that awarded 2 500 points for the world ranking, list that guarantees 40 berths for the men’s single event of the 2016 Summer Olympics .
In the two previous editions, the Cuban athlete, 71st of the list of the world and among the leaders of the continent, beat first Czech Jan Frohlich ( 21-11, 21-18) and host Virgil Soeroredjo (21-12, 21-16), respectively.
This time Guerrero defeated in his way to the final Mexican Arturo Hernandez (21-9 and 21-15), Hungarian Gergely Krausz ( 21-11 and 21-15), the also Mexican Lino Munoz (21-17 and 21-13) and Italian Rosario Maddaloni (21-14 and 21-13).
His next competition will be in Brazil, from November 24 to 29 in Rio de Janeiro, home of the Grand Prix, tournament that grants five thousand points for the world ranking to the winner. (acn)
